Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana

Pioneering the science of Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, combining traditional mineral-herbal processing with modern drug standardization.

Ayurvedic Pharmaceutics

Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana is an important branch of Ayurveda dealing with Ayurvedic pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical sciences. The department focuses on the preparation, processing, preservation, standardization, and quality control of Ayurvedic medicines.

Students are trained in the preparation of various classical formulations such as Churna, Vati, Avaleha, Asava, Arishta, Ghrita, Taila, Bhasma, Kupipakwa Rasayana, and other dosage forms. The department provides practical exposure to pharmaceutical manufacturing techniques and laboratory procedures.

Special emphasis is given to the purification and processing of metals, minerals, and herbal drugs according to classical Ayurvedic principles. Modern quality assurance methods are also introduced to ensure the safety and efficacy of Ayurvedic medicines. The department contributes significantly to the preservation and advancement of traditional Ayurvedic drug manufacturing practices while promoting scientific validation and research.

Dosage Forms & Formulations

Training includes hands-on experience in manufacturing classical Ayurvedic drug formats:

Herbal Liquids & Semisolids

Avaleha (confections), Asava-Arishta (fermented infusions), Ghrita (medicated ghee), and Taila (oils)

Dry Powders & Tablets

Churna (fine powders) and Vati (tablets/pills) prepared using standard processes

Herbo-Minerals & Bhasmas

Purified metal/mineral ashes (Bhasma) and advanced Kupipakwa preparations

Practical Training Infrastructure

The department features full-fledged pharmacy workshops and labs to teach processing and quality control:

Preparation Laboratory

Equipped with traditional heating hearths (Puta) and modern machines for medicine formulation.

Quality Control Lab

Focuses on standardization, raw drug purity tests, chemical analysis, and shelf-life checks.

Raw Drug Museum

An extensive visual catalog of raw minerals, metals, animal products, and dry herbs.

Students study both classical purification methods (Shodhana, Marana) and contemporary chromatography and spectrophotometry to meet modern drug safety regulations.
